Let's Talk About Weaves

Sewn in weave extensions offer women versatility and a change in routine. A weave can provide a much-needed break for your hair, allowing it to rest for a few weeks

without the tension or manipulation that comes with styling your natural hair every day.

A common misconception about having a weave is you can braid your hair up and forget about it for a few weeks. This is not a healthy hair care practice. Yes, a weave is a protective style. But while your natural hair is safely braided underneath your weave it still requires some attention.Your weave should be cared for in the same manner as your own hair.

To ensure you are getting the most out of your install and taking proper care of your

natural hair, we’ve provided a few tips for weave maintenance.

Washing your weave

Your weave should be washed every 2-3 weeks. This helps to provide your braids with moisture

and remove buildup, oils, and dirt.

How long should you keep your install?

Your weave install should NOT exceed more than 8-10 weeks. This can vary from person to

person. The speed of your hair growth will determine how long to keep an install.

Removing your weave

The braids prevent your hair from shedding as much as it normally would. Due to all the shed

hair, debris, and buildup that has accumulated over time you may experience some matting.

This can be challenging to remove on your own; therefore, we recommend having a

professional uninstall your weave to preserve the healthiness of your hair.

Scalp care while wearing a weave

As you wear your install, it is not uncommon to experience irritation on the scalp from trapped

sweat and buildup, especially if you’re due for a wash. Many women also suffer from dry scalp.

Aside from regular washes, you can seal in moisture by using an oil or scalp serum.

We recommend the Hair Freaq Peppermint Oil or the Mizani Calming Scalp Lotion.

Following these steps will ensure that you are maintaining a healthy scalp and hair. If you have any questions about caring for your weave and your hair, schedule an appointment with one of our stylist.
